Daily life: Life around the lake is simple yet treacherous. Most of the people who make their living in this high altitude lake rely solely on their animals. The harsh conditions make animal husbandry very challenging and a bad season or the death of an animal can be a huge setback to the yearly income and subsequent survival of the family. This nomadic lifestyle will not be around in near future; it was a privilege to photograph these people and their animals.

Morning: I slept in a nomad tent next to the lake and every morning yaks would amble down the drink the cold crisp water. I felt like an intruder, it was his lake and not mine; he was glaring at me. I love the ripples he created with his hoofs in the puddle. Just one small yak against the backdrop of giant snowy peaks and a huge sky highlighted the isolation of the lake.

Freedom: The amazing natural scenery and animal life that surrounded me at the lake was a purifying experience, culminating with two low flying hawks that hovered over me for what seemed like hours. I managed to shoot them from many angles. The emptiness of the massive sky was pierced by these beautiful birds with their sharp defined wings and the delicate light. They defined freedom for me, and this symbolised my trip to the lake. I hope to learn better how to create sharp images with moving subjects such as birds.
