Bangkok English bar

THAILAND | Wednesday, 22 March 2006 | Views [189]

went into an English bar tonight. Sad. Compare Thai bar to English bar

THAI BAR

Bar Girl: Hello Sir, welcome, what would you like

Me: Heineken please

BG: Where are you from Sir? what do you do? You like Thailand?

Me: Lovely place <some banter>

BG: Here is my sister sir, she loves Englishman because he is so nice but she sad because she no have Boyfriend. <sister smile>

Me: <Lesley Phillips accent> Hellllloooooooo <evening's entertainment>

ENGLISH BAR

Me: <enter, English guy looks up and sees beer gut and shows disdain as if to question why beer drinkers enter his bar>

BG: What would you like to drink

Me: Heineken

BG serves me Heineken

Me: <drink then go back to hotel>

What makes them think that they can compete with the locals? Is it that they are after a higher class clientelle? They don't exist in Bangkok!! Any familiarity with English bar owners in Spain? I imagine that they have the same success rate. By the way, when I left phuket one of the women from the bar gave me a silk shirt as a leaving present. The English bar owners just give me the impression that they have done me a favour by letting me drink in their bars. Weird
