Surf Camp Australia

We were really lucky to score an invite down to the best Surf School in Oz.

You can't visit Australia and avoid ‘Surfers and Surf’ so as they say if you can't beat em join em. A stroke of luck my brother has a contact who runs the ‘Ripcurl Surf camp Australia’ . With the dreams of a perfect wave, the day starts early, we grab a lift outside the Skubar in Sydney to Girangong and seven mile beach (it really is that long). Craig, one of the instructors picks us up, its only a few hours and we have a good drive. South of Sydney the vegetation is just Eucalyptus trees and when your out there in the bush you'll never find your way back again. On arrival we are introduced to everyone. There are only a few people there, most of them are instructors. The place is really well thought out, really great cabins in a quad layout. Wide screen TV, good food and terrific people what can go wrong?

We hit the beach for some waves, excellent one on one personal tuition from the instructors however rain and terrible swells due to storm fronts and injuries mean we only surf the one day. The next day showed us the power of mother nature. The waves were massive up to 4 metres and some, white water for 200 yards. Our abilities certainly did not match these conditions and an early exit was required. We could stay over there for one more day and be wet and cold or we could take the train to Sydney. The train journey home began well, and ended when a freak mud slide meant we had to get the bus!! This in the words of Bullet Tooth Tony, is going to be emotional….
