Iguazu Falls

We travelled up to Puerto Iguazu, AR last week for three days; Iguazu Falls is on the "must-see list" for every traveller to South America. The trip was certainly worth it-there are over 250 falls stretching over 17 miles. Niagara is nothing next to this! We made our way to the Brazilian side of the falls on our first day out as the Brazil side offers a better panoramic view of the falls. The trail was pretty crowded, but you can´t beat the sights. There´s a catwalk that extends out into the middle of the falls and you literally are soaked from the spray. While there are less trails to explore in the Brazil park, the Brazil side truly offers a sense of the magnitude and size of these falls.
The next day we were out to the Argentina park early to get a head start on the crowds. Once in the park, we took a small train out to the largest fall in Iguazu, La Garganta del Diablo (the Devil´s Throat). It´s incredible. When looking down, you stare straight into nothingness, the spray and mist causes a permanent cloud throughout the fall. The Argentine side of the falls offers more up close views of individual falls, which you can view from either the top or the bottom. We spent most of the day hiking the various trails and circuits, took a small raft over to the largest island in the park, San Martin and ended the day with a longer hike into the park to Pozon Pool. The last hike was well off the beaten path, but we came across the only swimming area in the park. The pool left much to be desired, but we did end up climbing over some rocks to sit under one of the falls and cool off.
We finally went through our 500 pictures of Iguazu Falls; hope you enjoy a glimpse into one nature´s most spectacular wonders.
