cake number 3
I wrote that Chinese sweets don't tempt me. I should re-state that. The cakes do---but just because of the designs, color, and the look.
There have been 2 birthdays and a going away party. Each time there was an elaborately decorated cake. They are gorgeous. The taste isn't bad but nothing to write home about. . but something to journal about!
Basically all 3 cakes tasted the same—kind of vanilla like with no real flavor, if that makes sense. The icing is really fluffy, like whipped cream but since they don't use much milk here I am not sure what it is.
All this said, and I am wondering if anyone else has a birthday coming up before our we leave here!

Yes, same thing at the Chinese cake shops here in Vancouver. Pretty decorations but not spectacular in taste. Also, looking through your pics of cakes, I couldn't help wondering exactly what they put in all those glossy but flavourless glazes and such! Oh well, concentrate on the yummy savoury foods! Munch on...
