Warnemünde, Germany, is a delightful port town on the north coast of Germany, on the east side of the Danish peninsula.  Initially, we took the train south to Rostock, which we thought was a larger town with more sights.  But after looking around a rather boring Rostock town, we took the train back to Warnemunde where the cruise ship was docked and entered into an orgy of eating and drinking all the things that we have been missing:  beer, spezi, schnitzel, spaetzle, coffee, bratwurst + senf + broetchen, frikandel + senf, pommes, and a radler.  Warnemunde itself is small, but in the last 50 years, it has developed into something of a Baltic beachside resort, a la Brighton.  Frankly, neither of us can imagine sticking our toes into the Baltic Sea any time of the year (nor into the English Channel at Brighton).  Warnemunde made lots of money during the heyday of the Hanseatic League, and vacationers can now rent houses that used to belong to sea captains and their officers.  All in all, a great visit in a lovely German town, albeit a fattening one…
