Getting to many of the abadoned diamond mining villages means tackling some of the highest dunes in the world. It's not for the fainthearted.

The cost of cleaning up the desert is too high so the buildings have been left to slowly rot away

Diamond miners working in the Namib Desert also used ships to bring supplies in as this was often easier that using wagons. Lifeboats were then used to cart equipment from the ships to the shore
