Holy crap! They weren't kidding when they said the party capital of NZ. We drive in and I'm thinking... this is just an inflated Whistler (Ski town)... oh no no I was soooo wrong. Our first stop was 'The Bridge'... the original bridge for the beginnings of bungy! We watched a couple of our bus mates jump... it got me sooo psyched for 'Nevis', which is the highest jump in the world... the one in South Africa closed down... (a girl was to scared to jump and hung on to her boyfriend and pulled him down.. he wasn't connected and died) SCARY! I bought my ticket and we headed into town to settle in...which entailed pool and a few beers. It was one of the driver bdays and we just hung out and had a few and sang some songs.
Day two: I got up nice and early to head down to the AJ HAckett Bungy place and they weigh me in etc... the girl turns around to tell me I need to weigh 45kg .... yeah? I weigh 41kg. (I weigh 90lbs and need to weigh 99lb) Can't do the jump the cord wont stretch and I'd get hurt. Damn I was sooo bummed. I asked them to strap weights on me... they said no. I asked if i could jump w/someone... they said no. I think they were scared that I was so insistant on jumping. I booked the canyon swing instead for the next day w/the group. It was karaoke night... which means we drank a lot and sang songs as a group... I was more of a backup encourager of song lol It was our driver Ali's last night. I showed him my progress on the tattoo that I'm drawing for him and he seemed pleased.... so far. I called Aneela to tell her that I was drawing a tat for my driver and she thought i was getting a tat of the driver put on me... could you imagine?
Day 3: I was sooooo not excited about the canyon swing... i didn't know how it would be... it's pretty much a bungy that you can do in many fucked up ways (excuse the language).... I couldn't believe it... they let people go in buckets... and blindfolded and of course it's free if you're nude. no thanks. I was in the second batch of mates to go... and the first in my group to jump, which means they f*ed with me the most. Oh it was insanely scary, but soooo amazing. They told me if I did the second jump I'd get a free tshirt. How could I refuse? For the second one I did the Pin drop, which is a side hop off the cliff.... oh my that took me a minute. I was doing a dance and the guys were laughing at me.. like do you want some music with that? I'm so glad I did it. When I walked back into the shop the girl working there asked me what size tshirt ... looked me up and down and said.. you're the nevis chick.. oh yeah. I'm known around Queenstown for being too small to jump off Nevis. Great! I need to get a tshirt made. I'm sure the night consisted of drinking.... ohhh. I met our new dorm mate, marco. This guy. He's Australian and i misheard him... his name is really Michael, but apparently Canadians never get it right. So I call him Marco to this day. This kid is a nut... so goofy, but a great addition to the seven girls I was bunking with. Four Irish, one english and me and Jaymie.
Day 4: This was a chilled out day We did some street luging on a beautiful mountain top. It was our last night to hang out w/so many people that we've met along the way.. so the night time we drank... more. It was probably the best night time outting I've had in forever! So many fantastic characters.
The whole trip Rugby has played a huge part in everything so it has been really cool following it all... I'm bummed Ireland is out for my Irish pals.
I have a bit more to write later on the south of the south island. Time for dinner here.
Sweet as... aye bro.
