A Passion for Travel, Film and Humanity

I knew that filmmaking (particularly using this medium to inspire and uplift) was my passion when I was in high school. It wasn't even a question of what I would go to school for. Unfortunately or not (everything happens for reason) a week before classes began my freshman year I got cold feet with all the messages coming my way about how I "wouldn't be able to make any money," or that I would have to make other peoples movies and not my own. My 18 year old mind let this silliness infiltrate and I changed my major to nursing. After a good five or six years of life later-after changing my major to psychology (another deep passion), going through some rough times with substance abuse, getting sober, discovering how I really want to live my life, going back to school across the country and doing a fair bit of nomad-style traveling- I finally found myself back to my passion- film making.
The reason why I want to win this scholarship is because I gave up my initial opportunity to go to film school and I want to change the world with this medium. More importantly, I know that I have what it takes to change lives for the better through documentary and other types of film making. I am craving the mentor-ship from someone who knows what they are doing as I am almost entirely self-taught. My partner is Myles. You will see him in the film.
