Happily Ever After

Golden Week

JAPAN | Wednesday, 6 May 2009 | Views [108] | Comments [1]

This week is Golden Week in Japan.  There are four celebrated Japanese national holidays during this week including Showa Day (April 29), Constitution Memorial Day (May 3), Greenery Day (May 4), and Children's Day (May 5).  Needless to say, the parks and points of interest (not to mention the main roads) have been packed with people and vehicles all week.

We did get to see a local celebration display for Kodomo no Hi ("Children's Day") along the river the other day.  It is very common to see the fish flags hung from houses and stores all around at this time, but I was extremely impressed with the fish flags strung across the river.  Very fun!  Check out some of our photos in the gallery.

Leapin' lizards (!) are those flying fish??? I'm looking forward to seeing lots of fun and unusual things while I visit you two Carlsons in Sept/October. Will there be a festival in my honor?

Hugs,
Mama
